I build furniture on a small scale. Custom commissions, studio one-offs, and very short run production.

My company is myself. I have no employees, except an occasional assistant for installation. Since I have my hands all over every part of the process, from design to delivery, you can be sure to get the personal service and attention to detail that comes only with old-fashioned craftsmanship.

My designs feature clean, contemporary lines and materials, while occasionally betraying a subtle influence of Mid-20th-Century Modernism, Arts and Crafts, and traditional Asian styles. Geometry plays a strong role, such as in the Catenary Chair, the 5-Degree Coffee Table, and the Triangle Bowls. I try to use sustainable materials and design practices when possible, such as bamboo plywood, pine reclaimed from old warehouse timbers, and recycled plastic solid surface materials from companies like 3Form. I try to use mostly domestic hardwoods, since they tend to be less threatened, more easily monitored for proper forestry practices, and less consumptive of energy for shipping. There are lots of interesting and unusual possibilities in domestic hardwoods, including ambrosia maple, spalted sycamore, black myrtle, osage orange, and red box elder.

I hold a master's degree in Sculpture, and I worked as a professional, exhibiting sculptor for six years. This training taught me the sensitivity for form and 3D design skills necessary for high-quality furniture design. It also taught me the fine carpentry and technical skills I use every day.
